STEP 5 - PREGNANCY DIAGNOSIS & CARE

Pregnancy is detected by ultrasound examination 15 to 16 days after the mare was last inseminated. If the mare is pregnant, follow up rectal palpation at 30 and 60 days of pregnancy confirms that she is maintaining the pregnancy.

If the mare does not conceive, an effort is made to determine the cause of failure. 65% of mares conceive on their first breeding cycle.
