Dakota Large Animal Clinic performs a wide range of surgical procedures.
There are numerous elective procedures performed at the clinic including:
annular ligament desmotomies, umbilical and inguinal hernia repairs,
cryptorchid castrations, tenotomies, transphseal bridging and periosteal
stripping (for angular limb deformities in foals), splint or sequestrum
removal, dental surgery, neurectomies and many others.
Some of the emergency surgical procedures are also offered at the clinic
such as colic surgery, wound repair, some orthopedic emergencies.
The clinic is well equipped to handle equine surgery and anesthesia.
There is a special padded room that is used for both anesthetic induction
and recovery. Once the horse has been anesthetized it will go onto an
inhalant gas anesthetic, either halothane or isoflurane, and be moved to the
surgery room via an overhead track system. The surgical table is specially
designed to raise and lower with hydraulics for different procedures and
positions performed on your horse. The surgery room is equipped with an ECG
machine to monitor the heart, doppler machines to monitor blood pressure,
intraoperative radiographs, fluid therapies and inhalant anesthesia.
