Nutrition
Puppies require health diets that are high in energy and nutrients and are easy to digest. Therefore, it is important they are fed a growth formula pet food. We recommend a meat/poultry based growth diet. Since these diets are well balanced, you will only need to feed 1/2 the amount that you would need from a traditional puppy chow. The stool will also be smaller and firm, which make both housebreaking and cleaning the yard much easier! Frequency of feeding is crucial to your puppy. At 6-12 weeks puppies need 3-4 meals a day. From 12 weeks to 6 months, 3 meals a day are needed. At 6 to 12 months, they need 2 meals a day. And after 1 year, 1 to 2 meals a day of Maintenance-type diet are needed. Large breed dogs have special energy requirements for proper growth rate. If you have a large breed puppy, please discuss their special needs with our staff.  Purina has a Large Breed Puppy Formula that has higher glucosamine and lower fat for the larger breeds.

Kittens need a high calorie, protein-rich diet that is easy to digest. We recommend a poultry or meat-based diet. With these well balanced diets, you will feed less and the kitten will use more of the food, which means less to clean in the litter box! A kitten should be fed at least 3-4 times a day until they are 14-16 weeks old, and two times a day after that. By meal-feeding on a regular schedule, your kitten will become more affectionate and responsive to you. At one year a maintenance-type diet can be fed. Avoid giving kittens milk, as cows milk is difficult to digest and often causes diarrhea.
